Weekly inspiration

February 11, 2010

I think its important for any photographer to find things the give them inspiration from time to time. Whether that be inspiration to be more creative, inspiration to step outside of their comfort zone, or inspiration to continue to work at something that doesn’t provide good old instant gratification. Ive decided that every week I am going to post something that has inspired me for one reason or another and hope that anyone that might read this blog can get a little something out of it too.

About a month or so ago I created my first slide show of an engagement session I shot a while back. I was like so psyched when I was done that the first thing I did was post it to my blog. Needless to say when I got an email that someone commented on my post I may have injured myself jumping up to see what had been written. You see, for someone like myself who is trying to hard to break into this profession any feedback is like gold. I was even happier when I noticed that the comment was from someone not obligated to comment like my wife. The comment was from Clayton Austin, with a note about the song choice for the slide show. Obviously I was interested so I took a look at his blog. It didn’t take long for me to be hooked. Ive told my good friend and partner in Rockstar Images Andrew Rozell, that my goal when I do weddings is to take a picture that someone that doesn’t know the bride or groom would want to hang on their wall. I want to capture art. I know that may sound a little snooty but Clayton Austin Love Stories is a great example of this done right and it has inspired me to not compromise what I want to do. Please check out his blog and drop him a comment, its amazing what a little encouragement can do.

Exciting and Amazing news!

January 19, 2010

You may have noticed in an earlier post that I listed off some of my new years resolutions.  One of those was to further my dream to start a business with a great friend of mine Andrew Rozell.  Well the time has come to launch Rockstar Images!!! Its still a work in progress but I can’t express how exciting this is.  I can’t wait to shoot our first wedding together as Rockstar Images.  Check out the new site and let me know what you think.

Eyes

January 15, 2010

The first time I met the girl in the picture she was walking across a busy intersection headed right for me on the other side. I could tell she was pretty but the closer she got she quickly became more than pretty. Once we were face to face I was mesmerized by her eyes. I felt like my face start to hurt from smiling, not sure if she even noticed. I had no idea at the time that I was meeting the woman that I would spend the rest of my life with but I couldn’t take my eyes off her and I didn’t want to either. I’m the luckiest guy in the world because I get to wake up to those eyes every morning and see them in my son everyday.  I love you.

P.S. Does this count as a Valentines Day present?

Niki and Ian – Love

January 4, 2010

I have wanted to create a slideshow for a while now and finally decided to do it.  I couldn’t have picked a better couple than Niki and Ian.  Hope you like it.

Some would tell you that New Year resolutions are meant to be broken, based on my very shaky history with keeping such resolutions I would tend to agree.  So to break this vicious cycle I am going to get these resolutions down somewhere where the world (the 10 people that read the blog) can hold me accountable.  Drumroll please…in no particular order.

1) Run a marathon – Those of you that know me personally may be a bit shocked to see this one. I am not in peak physical condition for anything other than a wing eating contest but the point is for that to change before 2011 gets here.

2) Follow my dreams – I know, I know very vague.  There are some specific things in life that I want to achieve and I want to make this a year where I cultivate those things.  If you have ever seen Tommy Boy think of my dreams like the dinner roll in the diner scene.  If you haven’t seen Tommy Boy, shame on you.

3) Rockstar Images – More to come…very exciting stuff.

Now this goes without saying but I intend on becoming an even better father, husband, family member and friend and ahem…update the blog more often.

Happy 2010 everybody, can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us all.

Family Matters

January 2, 2010

I know what you are thinking, what does a hilariously funny and groundbreaking 90’s? sitcom have to do with photography?  Nothing and I’m ashamed of you for making that connection.  What I am referring to is the shoot I got to do that oozed family from the moment they pulled up to the Nash Farm in Grapevine.  As soon as I saw this clan I couldn’t help but be down right giddy to capture all the love that was floating around the old farm.  Here are just a few of my favorites

Christmas Picture

December 18, 2009

Last year Evan was just about 3 months old, we were just over anxious parents trying to make everything perfect for his first Christmas.  I don’t pretend to think our little boy is going to remember these first few Christmas’ at home but I know for sure that he can tell how much we love him and thats all that matters to me.

Mini Rockstar

November 22, 2009

The first time I met B I was at a Texas Rangers baseball game with his Mom and Dad. I expected the typical 7 year old greeting, a shy hello and then back to the baseball game.  B isn’t the typical kid.  I sit down next to him and immediatly get an arm around the shoulder followed by a joke.   B doesn’t lack in confidence and personality and he is about the nicest kid you will meet.  I had a great time taking these pictures.

1 year already?

September 6, 2009

It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in the hospital room with Sarah.  Trying so hard to be tough and not show Sarah just how nervous I was waiting for my first child to arrive.  It was the most amazing day of my life and nothing will ever be the same. 1 year later Evan celebrated his 1st birthday.  He made his way around the room, stopping occasionally to hug grandma or smile at his uncle or who ever might give him a smile in return.  I realized what a lucky dad I am to have such a great family.
